A connector rating
communicates that the component is intended to participate in a certain class
of signal transmission, but the rating is not the same as end-to-end
throughput. The contact design, coding, shielding provision, mechanical
locking, and mating quality can all support signal integrity, but the connector
still interacts with the rest of the system. If the cable is unsuitable, the
device port does not support the target speed, or the mating side is not
equivalent, the connector cannot force the link to operate at the maximum
stated rate. This is why “Gigabit Ethernet threaded connector” language is best
read as a physical-layer and application clue, not as a complete protocol or
bandwidth certificate.
